About Me
Why did you decide to practice employment law?
A legal career provides the opportunity to make a difference in the world. Practicing employment law allows me to make a difference in one of the more vulnerable areas of society. In today’s world, employers often have quite an unfair advantage over their employees and frequently utilize it. In such scenarios, with the proper help, it can be easier for employees to avoid mistreatment. A career in employment law allows me to help people avoid this injustice and, hopefully, create a more just society for others.
What was law school like? Did you have any second thoughts along the way?
Law school was challenging but fulfilling. 1L year is a rude awakening and does a fine job of bringing home the realization that school is different this time around. And, yes, 1L year stirred up some second thoughts. However, navigating the challenges on the way to graduation and not giving up was a gratifying experience. I learned much law, developed lifelong friendships, and learned a better way to carry myself. Most importantly, law school simply taught me to persevere.
What’s the best piece of advice you can give to anyone who is being discriminated against at work?
I’m sorry that you are experiencing such a thing. Document as much of what is happening as you can and speak with an attorney as soon as possible. Filing a complaint with HR is beneficial as well. As difficult as it is, try to remain on your best behavior so as to not provide any potential excuses for adverse employment actions such as firing.
