About Me
Interview questions and answers:
Tell me about a time when you felt discriminated against, picked on, or bullied and how that impacts how you do your job?
ADHD and other neurodivergences run in my family. Our women in particular are very used to others perceiving us as some combination of rude and “ditsy.” I know from experience that human beings are not as good as we think we are at reading each other. I make a point to bring that perspective to my interactions with my clients. I assume sincerity, effort, and good intentions at all times.
Why did you decide to practice employment law?
I enjoy being able to see the direct, tangible impact that my work has on the lives of working people.
What’s the most important aspect of the law to you?
It facilitates community through compromise. Whether or not a particular statute or precedent is what we believe it should be, law as a concept is a deeply hopeful and collaborative endeavor. We all agree to forego a certain amount of our own freedom to pursue self-interest, in order to ultimately create more space for all people to thrive.
What’s the best piece of advice you can give to anyone who is being discriminated against at work?
Don’t suffer in silence and put everything in writing. Many of the people I have worked with in this field have told me that reporting discrimination felt like an entitled or self-centered thing to do. In reality, when you oppose discrimination at work, you make life better for everyone else along with you.
