Interview questions and answers:
Tell me about a time when you felt discriminated against, picked on, or bullied and how that impacts how you do your job?
I was bullied by a co-worker who continuously worked behind the scenes to impact my performance and diminish my name. I felt attacked and alone. I did not understand why someone would go out of their way to make my life more difficult. In actuality, it made me work harder to avoid the pitfalls and traps that were laid out before me. While it made the work environment less appealing and hostile, and the sense of team and collaboration diluted, It did contribute to my drive to excel and submit my best works.
Why did you decide to practice employment law?
I decided I wanted to reach out and help those being taken advantage of by those in positions of power. Employers have a stranglehold over the lives of their workers. Workers feel lost and powerless to stand up and voice their issues; for fear of retaliation, fear of job loss, for lack of power. I have felt that powerlessness. I wanted to learn how to stand against these forces and show those in power that their workers are not just tokens to be used and discarded upon a whim.
Why is it important to you to represent real people instead of companies?
People are the currency of the times. They are disposable to companies and have little to no voice in their employment, including their pay, time off, employment decisions, etc. The companies hold all the cards and someone needs to represent the workers’ rights.
